There are less than 12 hours left to vote for Kokomo native Brent Wright to progress into the semi-finals for the chance to land the cover, a 2-page spread and $20,000 from Muscle & Fitness Magazine.

What started with more than 19,000 competitors, is now down to 355, said Wright, with voting for the Semi-Finals ending at 10 p.m. on Thursday, June 22.

After spending the majority of his life as an avid athlete, Wright said he has always turned to fitness when things got hard. After struggling with an addiction to drugs and alcohol, Wright said he got clean in 2010 and used time in the gym to strengthen not only his body but his mind during his recovery.

His key to success? Consistency.

“In the first year of my sobriety, I was just trying to gain weight from using drugs, then the next year I joined Indiana Pit and I started training there. I’ve been solidly training for the last 12 years. It’s just part of my life,” said Wright.

Not only is fitness a huge part of Wright’s daily life but he started recently traveling as a motivational speaker. He admitted he didn’t do it for the $20,000, although that is a perk. The publicity of the campaign helps him promote his dream, sharing his story and helping people reach their fullest potential.

“My whole deal is giving back the gift that I’m blessed with of being clean. It’s what I’ve shared with people all these years: Being an example, a true example.”

Voting commences for the semi-finals at 10 p.m. Thursday. Users receive one complimentary vote per day and each vote is $1 after. The money to vote for Wright goes to The Wounded Warrior Project. It offers a variety of programs, services and events for wounded veterans.
